Mohanlal’s Pulimurugan creates another box office milestone for Malayalam films
Mohanlal’s Pulimurugan is showing no signs of slowing down despite creating and breaking several box office records. Manyam Puli marks the actor’s third release in Telugu this year, including Manamantha, a critically acclaimed film. Manyam Puli, which was released in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on December 2, has raked in Rs 2.5 crore on its opening weekend. The success of its original film, which had also received mostly positive reviews from media and fans, seems to have helped the film in drawing the audience to the theatres. The film has reportedly already recovered 62.50 percent of investment for its distributors. Mohanlal is also a well-known movie star in Telugu regions, thanks to his previous blockbuster Telugu film Janatha Garage. The dubbed Telugu version of the film has also emerged as a winner in Telugu states. The film was released on more than 500 screens in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka. The first three-day collection of the film is impressive, given that it hit the screens a day after Vijay Antony’s much-awaited film, Bethaludu. Pulimurugan producer Tomichan Mulakupadam of Mulakupadam Films has released the Telugu version in association with Saraswathi Films. So far, Pulimurugan has collected Rs 75 crore in Kerala alone and is still running in theatres. The collection of the Telugu version has taken the total collection of Pulimurugan to more than Rs 125 crore, beating the box office records of some of the biggest south Indian blockbusters.
