Dilip Kumar was admitted to Mumbai’s Leelavati hospital after complaining of fever and swelling in the leg. Talking to Bombay Times, Saira said, “I was anyway planning to take him for a routine check-up, but the swelling alarmed me. Inshallah, I will take him home before his birthday on Sunday,” the actor said. He was honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1994 and Padma Vibhushan in 2015. The actor, who will be celebrating his 94th birthday on December 11, was taken to hospital by wife Saira Banu. He was also complaining of cold and cough. Dilip Kumar’s last film was Qila in 1998. The actor was hospitalised earlier this year after he suffered from high fever. “The doctors are examining him; he’s under observation. The veteran actor’s birthdays are big celebrations with Bollywood celebs — led by self-confessed fans such as Aamir Khan, Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan lining up to congratulate him.
