How do you make a film on that? It gave us the feel of a first-person-shooter without being a first-person game, or, indeed, a proper shooter. Now, it appears a movie is going to be made on the game, 30 years after the first iteration of the game was released in 1987. Here is the official synopsis: “In 1988, a huge meteorite lands on an uninhabited island in the South China Sea. But what to do about the story? In our cheap Nintendo knockoffs that were widely available in electronic stores across India, this game was the ‘cool’ thing, while Super Mario, we agreed, were for kids and girls, although we, the boys, loved that too. Contra’s premise can be summed up, basically, like this: two special-forces commandos (both of whom looked like Arnold Schwarzenegger) go to investigate an alien presence in a remote island. 29 years later, Chen sends commandos Bill and Lance into a combat mission there to neutralize the villainous Red Falcon Organization, but end up facing a different enemy altogether.”
The teaser (embedded) does not reveal anything expect animated logo and the classic Contra tune, so we don’t know how the movie would look like and who would be cast. But still, Contra was something special. It is being produced by a Chinese company, so most likely we would see Chinese actors playing the two primary roles. Of course, then Mortal Kombat came and we forgot everything that had come before. In any case, we will have to wait for a trailer to make up our minds about the movie. And due to that longing, and nostalgic feeling, I am excited about it. 2017-10-28T14:02:30+00:00″>
