For Culton, it was important to come up with a strong-headed female lead in her directorial debut as she believes there is a long-due shift the society needs to go through when it comes to gender roles. And now that same school of animation has 60 per cent women in the batch. Advertising

“When I was growing up, the only example I had of how a girl should be were princess movies. So, when I decided to get into the field of animation, it was very important for me to create a strong female lead who was self-empowered and had her own mind. And I was not at all like that. I was a tomboy. But I think there is hope. I think it is high time to shake up how people perceive gender roles.”
