In the country from the beginning of the year, protests over prices began and then escalated into riots. According to the authorities, as a result of the riots, 18 security officials were killed and hundreds were injured. There was no internet in the country. Tokayev introduced a state of emergency in the republic and announced the start of an anti-terrorist operation. Thus, in Alma-Ata, administration buildings, presidential residences, and the airport were seized.
